  1. Economic Stimulus: how it pertains to you.

Below you will find information surrounding the Economic Stimulus and how it pertains to you. There are links to sites that will help you receive your payment, and the information is broken down by category of employment/benefit.

    Tax Return Filers

Click the link to learn how to “get my payment” if you haven’t already.  The section titled “Filers: Get Your Payment” on the left side of the page (the first section if using a mobile device) helps with information regarding checking payment status, confirming payment type, and how to enter bank account information to receive your stimulus via direct deposit.  Here is a bit of information you can expect to read:

Update your bank account or mailing address

    • If we don’t have your direct deposit information from your 2018 or 2019 return – and we haven’t yet sent your payment – use the Get My Payment application to let us know where to send your direct deposit.
    • 2019 Filers: We will send your payment using the information you provided with your 2019 tax return. You will not be able to change it.
    • 2018 Filers: If you need to change your account information or mailing address, file your 2019 taxes electronically as soon as possible. That is the only way to let us know your new information.

    Non-Filers

Click the link below to input your payment information if you did NOT file a 2018 or 2019 federal income tax return.  The website will provide information as to whether you SHOULD HAVE or SHOULD NOT HAVE filed a tax return.  The section titled “Non-Filers” is located on the right side of the web page (the second section down if using a mobile device).  This section is NOT for those who receive the following benefits:

                    Social Security

                    Disability (SSDI)

                    Survivor Benefits or Railroad Retirement

Click here for the IRS Link

    Social Security/SSDI/Survivor Beneficiaries

For those who receive any of these benefits, the payment system has been updated and you should already be receiving the money. The IRS recently announced that individuals who receive Social Security, survivor or disability, and Railroad Retirement benefits have until noon on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, to use the online tool at irs.gov to receive the $500 stimulus payment per dependent child. The deadline only applies to certain individuals who were not required to file a 2018 or 2019 tax return but have dependent children under the age of 17 who qualify for the additional $500 stimulus payment.

    Unemployment

The additional $600 per week in benefits that Congress authorized is scheduled to be sent out starting the week of April 20th.  Click the link below to be directed to the Maine Department of Labor Unemployment Insurance FAQs (frequently asked questions) regarding COVID-19.

  4. BangorHousing Holds Splash Pad Grand Opening

On Thursday August, 22nd 2019 hundreds of people gathered to help BangorHousing officially open the Capehart Play Park and Splash Pad. Staff, along with countless community members and partners, joined at the Splash Pad to put the final touch on the multi-year project.

“For kids in our neighborhood, they don’t have opportunities in terms of transportation to go other places, so we are incredibly proud to say that this is one of the coolest places to come in the city of Bangor. They can invite their friends and be incredibly proud of that. Capehart kids can conquer the world and do anything, this is just one more opportunity for them to have fun, grow up, and be the next generation of leaders in our city, and in our country.” – Mike Myatt, Executive Director of BangorHousing

The park includes on-site parking, a fenced in basketball court, a walking path around the perimeter, exercise equipment, a state of the art playground, covered picnic tables, and of course the Splash Pad.

The Capehart Play Park and Splash Pad is open 8am-dusk daily while its warm (Splash Pad), is open to the public, and is free of charge.

Visit the Splash Pad website here for more details!

  5. FSS Participant Graduates Program With More Than $10,000

BangorHousing’s Family Self Sufficiency Program is designed to encourage participants to realize their goals while leveraging the many benefits FSS can offer.  While the FSS Program is the largest in the state in terms of participants, each person receives personalized one-on-one attention… “When people join the program, they have their own set of goals in mind, so the journey to graduation is different for everyone.  Some join the program to find employment (or better employment), to improve their financial capability, to go back to college, or to earn their HiSET.” -Robyn Brochu, Family Achievement Coach.

When signing up for the program, participants will meet with staff to discuss their goals and how FSS can help them realize them.  The program also offers the escrow account incentive, which most of the participants see as a driving force.  When a participant’s rent increases due to an increase in wages, a portion of the increase goes into the escrow savings account.  Participants can receive the full balance of the account upon completion of their goals.

The FSS Program has partnered with MANY area businesses, agencies, and programs to help participants reach their goals.  The program, for example, works closely with the Eastern Maine Development Corp. to assist with participant’s access to workforce development training.

Last week Jennifer Crane (pictured above) graduated the FSS Program with an escrow balance of more than $10,000.  Because of her hard work and dedication, she was able to accomplish her final goal, which was to buy a house for her family.  Congratulations Jennifer, we wish you all the best!

If you would like to learn more about the program and qualifications, reach out to Liz Marsh and her team, they are looking forward to hearing from you.  You can call 207-942-6365 or email them, their contact info is located HERE.
